Hi Suffolk Scouters,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the four leaders who have been selected for the 25th World Scout Jamboree Korea 2023. With almost 30 expressions of interest, 17 applications and 13 leaders attending the selection day last Sunday we now have our four.

The selection day was based on three situational tasks, an interview and two short written assignments. The quality of all the attendees was truly amazing and shows what a good shape Suffolk Scouting is in.

After over three hours of discussion and deliberation by the selectors, we reached our conclusions.

The County Mountain Activities Team (CMAT) have organised a rock climbing/abseiling and hill walking event at the Glenbrook Activities Centre for the weekend of 24-26th September 2021. Event is open to Scouts/Explorers/Network and Leaders.

Details are available in the booking form (Word document) available on the CMAT Activities webpage (use link).

Hi Suffolk Scouters,

This is my last newsletter as County Commissioner. I would like to thank Colin Winter for ably writing the newsletters and Carl Gloess for the prompt dispatch of them. I would also like to thank all those who have called and emailed me with such kind words over the past few days since the announcement that I was stepping down at the end of the month.

I am pleased to say we are making good progress on a few fronts namely World Scout Jamboree, with a selection day this Sunday, best of luck to all those attending. I have now confirmed two Squirrel Advisors for Suffolk who will be working directly with the District Commissioners to provide help and advice. And finally I am pleased to announce three new appointments. Karen Butcher has been appointed ACC Beavers and Sam Rowland and Jayne Vaughan have been appointed as Local Training Managers for Wolsey and Deben Districts respectively. Very best of luck in your new roles

Hello Suffolk Scouters!

We have all been on been on probably one of the most challenging journeys over the past eighteen months with the global pandemic. I wanted to say that the work you have all done to maintain Scouting through zoom, remote learning and safe socially distanced Scouting has been amazing. We have all learned so much and in doing so ensured that the programmes we laid on for young people in their formative years has benefited them both mentally and physically. Don’t underestimate the impact you have had and what a fantastic difference you are making for young people in Scouting.

The pandemic hasn’t been kind to many people’s health for various reasons and my family have been impacted too and my time and emotional commitment to them has significantly increased. For those reasons I have taken the decision to step down as County Commissioner.

Dear Suffolk Scouters,

Many groups in the County will have been experiencing their first Summer Camp for two years albeit still with some restrictions. Overall, now that we are at the “Yellow” readiness level it is quite possible to offer nights away activities in a safe manner. Hopefully we can all look forward to offering a near normal programme in the Autumn term.

Module 38 (Skills for Residential Experiences)

This module is for Section Leaders and Supporters who may organise or support residential experiences for young people as part of their role in Scouting. If you would like a place on this useful training module, it will be running at Hallowtree from the 3rd to 5th September. Please see the Bookwhen link on the Adult Training link or here - Upcoming events - Booking by Bookwhen. Note: Use the ‘Show more’ link to open the month up to all the available modules.

Suffolk Punch 2022 is an action-packed, five day (four night) camp for Scouts and Explorers from 11-15 August 2022.

This is a new event for Suffolk Scouts which follows on from the unfortunate cancellation of the Suffolk International Moot which had been planned for summer 2021, but was halted due to the pandemic.

Over the five days of the camp, participants and adults can expect an exciting, varied and unique programme of activities designed to inspire, engage and empower while building valuable skills for life.

Daytime activities will take place both on and off site. We are fortunate to have good access to a number of local waterways which we will be using to deliver our brilliant range of water activities.

Find out more at the Suffolk Punch website.
